The fNIRS Society is pleased to announce the establishment of an Early Investigators Award. Outstanding NIRS researchers who have recently graduated are eligible for this award. The first

Membership-Icon-ISfNIRS Membership
The membership management system will go online in March 2016. Regular two year memberships will cost $95, and student 2 year memberships will cost $50. . In addition to having opportunities to serve in positions for the Society, members will have member’s only access to aspects of the developing SfNIRS website, will receive a discount on conference registration, and will have membership subscription rates for Neurophotonics published by SPIE.

ISO.org has recently published new guidelines for fNIRS devices: IEC 80601-2-71:2015 Medical electrical equipment — Part 2-71.  The publication describes requirements for the basic safety and essential performance of functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy equipment.
A new committee is currently preparing new guidelines for NIRS oximetry.

The Optics Division at the Martinos Center has published a blog about their NIRS measurements at the Cure Hospital in Uganda.

University of Michigan’s fNIRS lab will participate in the second annual Michigan Brainhack event. Current challenges in fNIRS data modeling statistical analyses and real-time fNIRS signal processing will be presented. Also each semester University of Michigan’s fNIRS lab offers introductory 2-hour seminars on fNIRS technology and the basics of its use. in-person and remote-login attendants are welcomed, please inquire fNIRS-lab@umich.edu.

shimatzuBrain Function Laboratory at Yale updates
Shimadzu held demonstration of LABNIRS system and wearable LIGHTNIRS at the Brain Function Laboratory in November. Presentations on multimodal NIRS imaging, signal processing, and applications were held by attendees from Yale University, Haskins Laboratories, Princeton University, and University of Texas.

SPIE Photonic West
Photonic West, the largest laser, photonics, and biomedical optics conference, will be held in San Francisco February 13 -18 2016.

OSA Biomedical Optics Meeting
The Biennial topical meeting on “Translating Biomedical Optics from the Scientific Bench to Clinical Practice” will be held on April 25 – 28th, 2016 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. A Nirfast pre-conference workshop will be offered on April 24th.

Birkbeck-UCL fNIRS Training Course

The Society for fNIRS has adopted Neurophotonics as its official journal. Please consider submitting your next fNIRS article there.  Members of SfNIRS can obtain a membership rate for subscribing to the journal through SPIE using the SfNIRS member-only form provided here. Also, you can sign up to receive twice monthly email messages about new articles published in Neurophotonics. See the instructions here.
