MexNIRS global NIRS meeting updates

We are gearing up for the 1st Mexican Symposium on Near Infrared Spectroscopy Neuroimaging (MexNIRS), which will be centered on the fascinating topic of Global NIRS. The symposium will be held on October 20 and 21, 2017 in Cholula, Mexico.

We received 36 abstracts from 8 different countries and 15 different research groups (19 if we include those of the invited speakers). These include submissions from Australia, Europe, and North and South America, thus guaranteeing a diverse program. There will be sessions on field experiences on Global NIRS, instrumentation and data analysis, and general clinical and neuroscientific applications.

Thanks to our sponsors, we were able to support six graduate students through travel awards.

Check the program online here.

If you are coming to MexNIRS, the website is packed with useful information about how to get to the venue, important things to consider for your stay, accommodation in Cholula, expected weather conditions, and what to do and see while there. If you feel adventurous, stay on Sunday, October 22 for excursions to the volcanoes or the Large Millimeter Telescope. Find the most up-to-date information at: http://ccc.inaoep.mx/~bio/NIRS2017/h

See you in Cholula!

More updates (earthquake)

The past Tuesday, October 19, Cholula and Puebla were hit by an earthquake that had an intensity of 7.1 on the Richter scale. Unfortunately, the earthquake claimed over 300 lives and severely affected both Puebla and Mexico City. Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, their homes, or who have been affected by the quake in other ways.

Nonetheless, neither INAOE facilities nor the main hotels in Cholula have been seriously affected. The use of campus, the auditorium, and the bungalows has been given the green light by authorities.

The following hotels are operating normally: Hotel Real de Naturales, Hotel Villas Arqueológicas, Hotel La Quinta Luna, Hotel Maria Sofía, Hotel Casa Calli (see the website for all information about accommodation).

We are pleased to confirm that hte MexNIRS symposium won’t be affected.

Please note that we still have room on the excursions to hike around the volcanoes! Please do let us know ( mexnirs@inaoep.mx ) asap if you are interested in attending but missed the registration deadline.
