The fNIRS 2021 Virtual Meeting

Dear all, the October general meeting of the society, the first in virtual format is now over. In this post you will get:

  • Some conference highlights
  • the relevant statistics
  • the playlist to all the videos in the YouTube channel of the society
  • and the award winners

Conference Highlights

  • Large participation of students presenting in oral sessions and posters
  • Extensive and wide fNIRS research output besides the extremely difficult year with the pandemic restrictions
  • The effort of the virtual conference organising committee working across time zones to deliver an engaging conference.

Ilias: “Personally, I am really proud of the organising committee of the virtual conference that includes lots of young researchers; a great testament that our society has a bright an NIR bright future”.

Statistics

  • 471 participants registered; 41% students, 7% Industry, 49% Non-students and 3% unspecified.
  • 35 countries from all continents; Africa (0.1%), North America (42%), South America (3%), Australia (4%), Asia (16%), and Europe (35%), showing that we are truly global society.
  • 261 abstracts received; of which 151 from students.
    • 72 Oral talks, 186 Posters and 3 rejected.
    • 114 from Europe, 101 from America, 36 from Asia and 10 from Australia.
  • 1 New Special Session fNIRS Standards
  • The average number of people in the ZOOM sessions was 200 and for Gather Town 150 people
