Election 2018 announcement

Nominations requested for President-Elect and Board of Directors

Biannually the members of the Society for functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (SfNIRS) elect one individual to serve on the President-elect, and six individuals to serve on the SfNIRS Board of Directors for a four-year term. On behalf of SfNIRS members, the Nomination Committee (Ippeita Dan, Marco Ferrari, Richard Aslin) announces an official Call for Nominations for these open positions as described below.

President-Elect

According to the latest By-Laws, the President-elect will be elected for a term of two years. Upon completion of the term, the President-elect will be inaugurated as the President, without further election, to serve as the official spokesperson of the Society with general supervision and control of its business. After the term of two years, the President will assume the office of the immediate Past-President. The President is not eligible to serve consecutive terms (i.e., the role of Past-President must intervene before being eligible for re-election).

The Nomination Committee will accept suggestions for the President-elect from the Ordinary Membership. Election for the President-elect will be executed electronically through the SfNIRS website. Upon approval by the Board of Directors, the result of the election will be reported at the biennial meeting, fNIRS 2018, Tokyo.

Please send suggestions for the President-elect with a letter of recommendation to one of the Nomination Committee members by July 15, 2018. Your letter should include the following information of the nominee:

  • Name
  • Title
  • Affiliation
  • Brief bio-sketch (one paragraph)
  • Research interest (one paragraph)
  • Motivation (one paragraph)
  • List of three selected fNIRS publications (in the PubMed format)

*One paragraph is expected to be around 100 words, and should not exceed 200 words.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors are expected to manage the affairs and activities of the Society in general. Each member of the Board of Directors will serve a term of four years for not more than two consecutive terms. In order to reflect the diversity of the membership worldwide, we will maintain the regional balance among the Board of Directors: for the term of 2018-2022, two members will be allocated for Europe including Africa, another two for America (North, Central and South), and the other two for Asia including Oceania.

The Nomination Committee seeks candidates for the Board of Directors from the Ordinary Membership. Once received, the Nomination Committee will provide a full list of candidates with a link to their personal statement through the SfNIRS website. Election for the Board of Directors will be executed electronically through the SfNIRS website, where each SfNIRS member can cast six votes. Upon approval by the current Board of Directors, the result of the election will be reported at the biennial meeting, fNIRS 2018, Tokyo. Note that the candidates with the most votes in a given region will be appointed to the Board of Directors, rather than the top vote-getters overall.

Those who are willing to serve as a member of the Board of Directors are requested to send the following information to one of the Nomination Committee members by July 15, 2018:

  • Name
  • Title
  • Affiliation
  • Brief bio-sketch (one paragraph)
  • Research interest (one paragraph)
  • Personal statement and Motivation(one paragraph)
  • List of three selected fNIRS publications (in the PubMed format)

*One paragraph is expected to be around 100 words, and should not exceed 200 words.
