Job Posting 2018

June 2018

The Child Development Laboratory (CDL) led by Dr. Nathan A. Fox is looking for a post-doc to work on developmental cognitive neuroscience research leveraging fNIRS and high-density EEG.

The focus of the CDL is on the development of typical and atypical cognitive and socio-emotional processing, with an emphasis on understanding neural systems supporting the human mirroring system, attention and cognitive control. The lab maintains close collaborations with researchers at the neighbouring National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) with Amir H. Gandjbakhche, Ph.D., Chief, Section on Analytical and Functional Biophotonics and Daniel Pine, MD, Chief Section on Developmental Affective Neuroscience, NIMH.

The CDL has a history of performing cutting edge research and publishing in high-impact journals. We now seek a well-qualified postdoctoral fellow to aid in fNIRS and advanced EEG research, along with exploring the simultaneous acquisition (and integration) of both modalities.

Candidates with a strong background in EEG and/or fNIRS will be most suited for the job. Prior programming experience (e.g. Matlab or Python) is a requirement. Psychologists, cognitive neuroscientists and other candidates are particularly encouraged to apply. Prior experience with developmental populations is not a requirement, but an interest in pursuing developmental research is expected.

The position’s start date is flexible, with a preference for late Spring, 2018. Interested candidates should submit a CV, research statement, preprints/reprints of papers, and the names and contact information for two references who can be contacted for letters of recommendation. Please email these materials to:

Post-doctoral Fellowship at the University of Calgary, Canada

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist for a post-doctoral position aimed at studying neurological disorders, with a focus on concussion and brain injury, using functional brain imaging. The research will involve developing post-processing methods and so there will be a strong preference for those with fNIRS analysis and processing experience. Our team has shown that functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), a method capable of assessing brain oxygenation and activity, may be useful for detecting mild traumatic brain injury or concussion. The successful candidate will join our rapidly growing research group of neuroscientists, engineers and physicists, led by Dr. Jeff F. Dunn.

The lab is a leader in the use of high field MRI and near-infrared spectroscopy to study neurological disease models and translate methods to clinical use. It contains a wide range of NIRS equipment, including the NIRX, TechEn CW7, two Hamamatsu NIRO systems, two ISS oxyplex systems and a custom-built broadband system dedicated to studies of preclinical models. The lab also includes a high field 9.4T MRI for animal research. There are strong linkages with clinical and MRI programs including those at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Seaman Family MR Centre. We have exceptional clinical collaborators from WinSport Medicine Clinic, the University of Calgary Sports Medicine Centre, the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Foothills Medical Centre.

Candidates must possess at least Ph.D. level training and have expertise in processing functional imaging using fNIRS or fMRI, with a strong interest in optical brain imaging. They need to be interested in writing and have first author publications. The individual will be responsible for leading the team in undertaking our fNIRS concussion study. Additionally, expertise in one or more computer languages (i.e. MATLAB, C++, python etc.) and technical ability to develop new processing methods is preferred. The person needs to be able to work independently and yet work well in a team environment.

The position is with Dr. Jeff F Dunn, www.ucalgary.ca/dunnimaging , in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

Applicants please email a CV and cover letter to: Maria Beketskaia mbeketsk@ucalgary.ca
