Postdoctoral researcher and a PhD student at University of Houston

My lab at the University of Houston has immediate openings for a postdoctoral researcher and a PhD student to work at the intersection of biomedical optics devices and computational imaging for investigating hemodynamics of brain and non-brain tissues.
The primary objective of this NSF-funded activity is to investigate the effect of prolonged pressure on human tissues (skin, fat, muscle) using a patch-like diffuse optical imaging system prototyped in our lab. However, cross-contaminations with our ongoing functional brain imaging projects are encouraged.
Successful applicants with background in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or other relevant fields will assume a lead role in conducting experiments on optical phantoms and humans, reconstructing and analyzing optical images, and contributing to the development of future generations of the wearable imaging device. Prior experience with fNIRS and/or DOT imaging is highly desirable.

Neuroscientist (Hardware Focus)

Kernel is building next generation, non-invasive, mind/body/machine interfaces (MBMIs). Our team of neuroscientists, engineers, and physicists are working on the frontier, pioneering in multiple fields. The technology we’re building will improve how we address mental disease and dysfunction and usher in a new era of exploring, improving and evolving our cognition.
We are looking for a talented hardware-focused Neuroscientist to work alongside our hardware engineers and developers in translating technologies from the bench-top to product. The ideal candidate will serve as a bridge between our hardware team and neuroscientists to help specify and improve our neural interface devices. This person should be familiar working with human subjects, implementing tasks, and performing data analysis.
Neuroscience is the new rocket science.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with cutting-edge neuroimaging systems to guide development of future products
  • Evaluate system configuration for optimizing neural data collection
  • Collect, curate and analyze large neuroimaging datasets
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of neuroscientists, engineers, and physicists in order to develop and transfer designed technologies to product groups

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S., in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Neuroscience, Statistics, or a related field
  • Strong coding and data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, C++, etc.)
  • Experience collecting and analyzing neuroimaging data
  • Understanding of design, implementation, and coordination of human neuroimaging experiments using hemodynamics

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Neuroscience, Statistics, or a related field
  • Experience with data cleaning methods
  • Experience dealing with large datasets and deploying real-time algorithms at scale
