  • Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Developmental Psychology at the University of Michigan: Applications are now being accepted for a 2-year NICHD post-doctoral research fellowship in Developmental Science at the University of Michigan. The Developmental Area within the Department of Psychology will award one post-doctoral fellowship with a start date between January 15 and April 30, 2017. The successful applicant must complete all requirements for the PhD before the post-doctoral fellowship can begin; however, it is not necessary that the degree be conferred before the start date. The objective of the fellowship is to train individuals on three pillars of knowledge: (1) developmental science of social context; (2) human neurobiology, including brain imaging, genetics, epigenetics, and endocrine function; and (3) advanced research methods (e.g., quantitative statistics appropriate for combining and analyzing longitudinal data from different levels of functioning). This cross-training will produce researchers well-positioned to develop cutting-edge work that advances knowledge about how neurobiological factors interact with environmental contexts to influence development across several domains and contexts. The Developmental Area faculty has a broad range of research interests across the life-span from infancy to late adulthood.   • Post-Doctoral Researcher Position at University of Texas at Austin: An exciting new collaborative, multimodal neuroimaging initiative at The University of Texas at Austin wishes to invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position. We invite applicants who have completed their Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or other related field. Applicants must have strong technical and computational skills. Prior research experience with multimodal neuroimaging, especially using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is desired. Experience with neuroimaging analysis software is also helpful. The appointment is contingent upon the completion of the requirements for a Ph.D. and will be for an initial period of one year with the possibility of renewal for up to two years. U.S. citizenship is required. The successful applicant should demonstrate strong potential in spearheading research and development in multimodal neuroimaging in collaboration with the Applied Research Laboratories at The University of Texas at Austin and work with principal investigators at The University of Texas at Austin in coordinating and designing multimodal neuroimaging studies.   • PhD Position at University of Picardie, Amiens, France (1 hour distance to paris): Characterization of early neurobiomarkers in premature neonates: A multimodal approach using High resolution EEG (HREEG) and High Density Optical Tomography (HDOT). In the framework of the PhD Program of the French Ministry of Research (ANR program), the INSERM U1105 invites applications for a 3 year PhD position in signal processing in Neuroscience. We offer a multidisciplinary research environment with opportunities for training and collaboration and access to excellent technical facilities. This includs 4 high resolution EEG (64 and 128), a High density Optical Tomography (HDOT) system using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) instruments (frequency domain (16×48 channels) and a Diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) system. Individuals who hold a Master’s degree in biomedical, or electrical engineering with strong analytic skills in signal processing are encouraged to apply. A wide experience with computer programming in MATLAB is required. Preference is given to someone with prior EEG analysis and/or signal processing or multimodal imaging experience. Combining a noninvasive functional optical imaging of the brain with high density electrophysiological analysis give the opportunity to record simultaneously hemodynamic and neuronal responses (fNIRS -EEG) to analyze spatiotemporal organization of the developing brain networks and the interactions between neuronal and vascular systems in the course of development with an High temporal and spatial resolution. In this project, the PhD candidate will develops and adapts current multimodal functional imaging analysis of the dynamic of the immature brain networks. This aims to define neurobiomarkers of the developing brain and to better understand the neuronal mechanisms, the localization and how the neuronal networks implement in the course of development. Additional recordings in pathological situations would apply to derive measures of cortical function and maturity helping to constitute new biomarkers usable in clinic.   • Postdoctoral Researcher Position at the KU Leuven. In summary, this is the project proposal: The research group KU Leuven ESAT-STADIUS is currently offering a postdoctoral position (2 years with possibility for extension) within the framework of an interdisciplinary project on epileptic seizure detection algorithms for a wearable EEG+PPG device. The goal is to create a prototype of a wearable seizure detection system which can give epilepsy patients better control in their daily life. The system will offer real-time seizure detection to alert the patient and the caretaker. The objective is to offer personalized solutions and algorithms allowing adaptive and patient-specific detection starting from synchronized acquisitions of brain and cardiorespiratory activity.
    The research project is conducted in strong collaboration with the University Hospital Leuven, industrial partners and other academic partners within Flanders and abroad.

  • Postdoctoral opportunities at UPenn, University of Pennsylvania: Our lab is pursuing a variety of problems in Biomedical Optics and Biophotonics. The research is oriented towards diffuse optical imaging and monitoring of deep tissue physiology, i.e., millimeters to centimeters below the tissue surface. We carry out fundamental studies in light transport, image reconstruction and optical technology/algorithm development, and, in parallel, we identify and investigate clinical (and pre-clinical) questions that benefit from the information provided by these novel optical techniques. Our current research at the optical-clinical frontier explores functional imaging and monitoring of blood flow, blood oxygenation and oxygen metabolism in the brain, breast and spine of adult and pediatric patient populations during surgery and at the bedside. We also have efforts probing tumor optical responses during cancer therapy, exploring diffuse optical imaging of breast and image-guided surgery, and investigating patients with critical limb ischemia. Finally, we have small program focussed on preclinical systems, e.g., functional imaging of rat brain and timor studies in mice. Most of our post-docs integrate their effort to align with these existing programs, and all of them are given freedom and resources to follow their instincts and explore other novel problems at the Biomedical Optics frontier.   • A sports neuroscience postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Division of Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences (CIBSR), Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, to study the neurobiology of cycling-based exercise using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to develop and contribute to an innovative project in sports neuroscience, investigating the contribution of cycling exercise to brain function and cognition. The fellow will be involved in the development of a cycling exercise program protocol, brain-computer interfaces and computational methods to process and analyze data across multiple scientific levels. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to investigate whether cycling exercise can be used as a tool to improve attention in individuals with cognitive dysfunction such as ADHD, and the utility and feasibility of biometric tools to complement fNIRS. The trainee accepted into the program will work collaboratively with a program mentor (or mentors), who will help to define, enhance and monitor the trainee’s research program and career trajectory. The CIBSR team dedicated to fNIRS research includes Drs. Allan Reiss (CIBSR Director, Clinical Neuroscience and Neuropsychiatry), Hadi Hosseini and Ning Liu (Bioengineering), Jennifer Bruno (Developmental Neuropsychology), Manish Saggar and Xu Cui (Computational Neuroscience), and Joseph Baker (Experimental Psychology).   • The VA Medical Center in Bedford, Massachusetts. Bedford, MA is looking for a  post-doctoral scientist in biomedical optics and spectroscopy. The primary research project assignment is development of non-invasive optical spectroscopy to diagnose neurodegenerative disorders due to disease, such as Alzheimer disease or due to injury, such as mild traumatic brain injury. This is a mature clinical science research and development project which depends on instrumentation development, laboratory and clinical data acquisition, and both empirical and physical modeling analyses.
